The Finnish SAR-system - Disaster Dog Tests
The Disaster Dog testing system consists of two classes. Both classes include three individual parts:

  • Field work in ruins


  • To qualify, a participating dog must succeed on all three parts.

    FIELD WORK - judging

  • The judging of the test consists of the following:
  • The behavior of the instructor
  • The tactical abilities of the instructor
  • The dog's action on the searching environments
  • The instructor's control over the dog
  • The cooperation between the dog and instructor
  • The indication of the target persons


  • FIELD WORK - Test Class A

    The searching area on the ruins is 60 x 80 meters. There are two people hidden in the area.
    To qualify, a participating dog must find both hidden persons in 15 minutes of time and indicate them clearly (only barking allowed) to the instructor.

    There are several open fires on the working area. Several shots with a 9 mm gun are carried out during the dog's working. There are also at least 3 people performing all kinds of noisy rescue acts.

    The dog must not pay attention to the shots, smoke, noice or working people in the area.

    FIELD WORK - Test class B

    The searching area on the ruins is 100 x 100 meters. There are 3-5 people hidden in the area.
    To qualify, a participating dog must find all the target persons in 20 minutes of time and indicate them clearly (only barking allowed) to the instructor.
