The Finnish SAR-system - basics
The new regulations for SAR Dog -tests include the following tests:

  • SAR Disaster Dog test (Two classes - A & B)


  • These tests are open to all breeds - even including ID-numbered mutts. A participating dog must be at least 14 months of age

    A qualifying result from any of these tests is valid for 3 years.

    All above mentioned tests include simular obedience part which consist of the following movements:
  • heeling on leash
  • heeling off leash
  • walking sit
  • walking down and recall
  • walking stand and recall
  • jump over a 0.8 m high barrier
  • go out with down
  • down under distraction


  • These obedience movements are similar to SchH & IPO obedience, but the judgement is less strickt as in the actual trials.

    For passing the tests a dog must succeed in both obedience and in the field work.

    To be included in a rescue team a dog must have at least a valid result from the SAR tracking test or from the SAR Air Scent test.
